Maidstone Bicentennial Museum is located on the historic Puce River where the first Maidstone Municipal Hall was built in 1875.  A fire in 1914 destroyed the original structure, which led to the present-day structure being built in 1915.  It remained the town hall until 1964.  On October 16, 1984, the Maidstone & Area Historical Society was founded and the museum was created. The museum houses a unique collection of artifacts that have been donated by the community or purchased by the MAHS.

The museum grounds are also home to beautiful Heritage Native Gardens; a collection of over 50 species of plants, trees, and shrubs native to the Essex County area. In the past, these plants served as food, medicine and dyeing of cloth. As well, they play an important part in supporting pollinators and our ecosystem.
