About the event

Jane's Talk: The Lives That Touched Belle Vue Amherstburg Host:  Debra Honor UE

Contact host:  honor.familyfinder@gmail.com

Belle Vue was built in Amherstburg after the War of 1812 by Robert Reynolds, Esq. who was one of the Deputy Assistant Commissary Generals stationed at Fort Malden. Through the years, other prominent families owned and modernized the home including William Johnston, a druggist; Perry Leighton, an amateur archaeologist; Isabella and John Mullen, who ran the coal docks for ships in Amherstburg; the Department of Veterans’ Affairs for WWI veterans; and the St. Nicholas Catholic Ukrainian Church. Among the tales of Belle Vue are the stories of the employees who worked for the Reynolds family, the Mullen family and the Veterans Home. Most of the WWI veterans had connections with Essex and Kent Counties as well.

Debra Honor UE, PLCGS is a lecturer, author, and professional genealogist. For 14 years, Debra has researched the families and employees of those who were connected with the property over  the 200 years of the building. Come hear the fascinating stories that cover the history of our area.

Her book will be available for sale at the event for $20 (cash only).
