Jane's Walk Windsor-Essex 2023: Art Submission
Our industrial 'neighbourhood'
Lisa Sylvestre (asil.ca)
My Jane’s Walk, 2023 is based on a series of photographs, taken over the winter and spring of this year. The original photos are of small spaces and structures that exist within some of the most highly industrialized areas along the Detroit River, in both Windsor and Detroit; a ‘neighbourhood’ of a very particular sort. There is something organic about these spaces that has caught my attention and charmed me.
Through a gel medium transfer process, the photos gain a transparency which allows for further manipulation. The gel medium images have been machine stitched to fabrics, either cotton, linen, or wool, all dyed with plant-based dyes which lends warmth to the structures that is absent from the landscapes they inhabit.
