Tips & Info for Participants:

  • All Jane's Walks are free to attend and registration is required through WindsorJanesWalk.ca

  • Plan your Jane’s Walk itinerary ahead of time by registering. You will receive event information to your email.  If you're doing more than one walk, make sure to leave enough time to get to the next starting place. The full schedule will be released in March.

  • New for 2025: Jane's Talks. Jane’s Talks are presentations and panel discussions. The talks are hosted live in the community or at our central event space.

  • All walks begin and end at the same spot.

  • You'll be walking some distance, and the ground may not always be paved.  Wear sensible shoes – something cushy and supportive. If you're joining a walk in nature, wear shoes that can get muddy!

  • Consult the accessibility considerations. Each walk will list whether the paths will be paved or if they're considered more challenging (hills/unpaved). Jane's Talks are seated events.

  • The walks will take place rain or shine.  Check the weather report, and dress accordingly.  If it looks like rain, you'll be more likely to stay warm and dry if you layer up and bring an umbrella.

  • If the weather is dangerous (lightning, high winds), walks will be rescheduled. You will receive an email for any registered walks that need to be rescheduled.

  • Ask questions — offer insights. Jane’s Walk works best when the tour has a friendly, conversational feel. Introduce yourself to fellow walkers, volunteers, and guides.

  • Be curious.  Consider attending walks in neighbourhoods you already know and even live or work in, to deepen your appreciation and to network in the area.

  • Cultivate your curiosity — venture farther afield and find out what is wonderful about neighbourhoods you’ve only heard about in the media or didn’t even know existed. Be adventurous.  Take lots of pictures, savour the sites and sounds. Stop in at a café, pub or restaurant and linger. Develop your own impression of an area and share it with others.

  • Get in close in order to hear the tour guides.  Stand close to the speakers.  Remember to leave enough room on the sidewalk for people to pass by.

  • Pay attention when crossing the street (cross at signals or crosswalks), and watch for guidance from the marshals.

  • Thank the leader and volunteers for giving their time to this thrilling insider’s guide to local communities.

  • Send us your feedback, thoughts, and ideas on the walks and other events you attended.   Fill out the participant survey after the festival.
